The Power of Mercy — Allah Is Always Kind

The Power of Mercy — Allah Is Always Kind

All praise is due to Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Kind. His mercy surrounds us, carries us, forgives us, and never leaves us. We praise Him, we thank Him, and we seek His forgiveness. We bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and final Messenger.

Dear brothers and sisters,

If there is one quality of Allah that touches every moment of our lives, it is His mercy. Before we are born, as we live, even when we make mistakes — Allah’s mercy is always there.

He is Ar-Rahman, The Entirely Merciful — whose mercy covers every creature.

And He is Ar-Raheem, The Especially Merciful — whose mercy is especially for the believers, in this life and the next.

Allah’s Mercy Comes First

The very first verse in the Qur’an introduces us to this reality:

“In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful.”
(Surah Al-Fatiha 1:1)

And this phrase — Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Raheem — is repeated at the start of every surah except one. Why?

Because Allah wants us to remember, begin, and live with the awareness of His mercy.

The Mercy That Surrounds Everything

“And My mercy encompasses all things.”
(Surah Al-A’raf 7:156)

This is not limited mercy. It is universal. It covers both believers and non-believers, humans and animals, the obedient and even the sinners. The sun shines for all. The rain falls for all. Food, safety, air, love — all of these are drops from the ocean of Allah’s mercy.

When you wake up and breathe fresh air — that is mercy.
When your heart beats, when your eyes blink, when your wounds heal — that is mercy.
Even the love a mother has for her child is a tiny reflection of Allah’s mercy.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“Allah has divided mercy into one hundred parts. He kept ninety-nine parts with Him and sent one part down to the earth. From that one part, the creation shows mercy to one another…”
(Bukhari and Muslim)

Think about that: All the mercy we see on Earth is only 1%. The other 99% is with Allah — saved for the Day of Judgment and the believers.

Mercy Even When We Sin

We all make mistakes. We all fall. But Allah’s mercy is bigger than our sins.

“Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.’”
(Surah Az-Zumar 39:53)

No matter what you’ve done — if you turn back to Him sincerely, He will forgive you. He doesn’t get tired of forgiving. But it is we who get tired of asking.

The Prophet ﷺ told us that Allah says:

“My mercy prevails over My wrath.”
(Bukhari and Muslim)

SubhanAllah! This means Allah loves to forgive. He doesn’t hold grudges. He waits for you to come back. One tear of regret, one sincere du’a, one heartfelt prayer — and His mercy flows again.

Mercy in Every Difficulty

Sometimes, life is hard. We feel pain, loss, fear, or sadness. But even in those moments, Allah’s mercy is hidden.

A difficulty might bring us closer to Him. A loss might protect us from something worse. A trial might clean our sins or teach us patience.

“…Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.”
(Surah Al-A’raf 7:56)

So don’t lose hope. If you are suffering, Allah sees you, hears you, and is still being merciful to you. Every tear you cry is recorded. Every second of patience is rewarded.

The Greatest Mercy: Jannah

All of Allah’s mercy in this life is just a sign of the greatest mercy: Jannah (Paradise).

We do not earn Paradise by deeds alone — but through Allah’s rahmah.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“No one will enter Paradise because of his deeds alone.”
The companions asked, “Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?”
He replied, “Not even me, unless Allah covers me with His mercy.”

(Bukhari and Muslim)

This reminds us to never rely on ourselves — always rely on Allah. His mercy is our path, our shield, our hope.

How Do We Receive More of Allah’s Mercy?

If we want Allah to shower us with mercy, we should show mercy to others.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth, and the One above the heavens will have mercy on you.”
(Tirmidhi)

So forgive. Be gentle. Help those in need. Be kind to children. Feed the hungry. Comfort the sad. The more mercy you give, the more mercy you receive.

Conclusion: Allah’s Mercy is Always With You

Dear brothers and sisters,

In every moment, through every difficulty, despite every mistake — Allah’s mercy never leaves us. He is Ar-Rahman — whether you remember Him or not. He is Ar-Raheem — especially when you turn back to Him.

So walk through life with hope, humility, and gratitude. Remember the One who never forgets you. Thank the One who never stops giving. Love the One who always forgives.

“And your Lord is the Forgiving, Full of Mercy.”
(Surah Al-Kahf 18:58)

May Allah fill our hearts with His mercy, forgive our sins, and enter us into His Jannah through His compassion and kindness.

Ameen.
